This meeting will bring up some discussion topics related to High School Students being Dual enrolled in postsecondary welding programs.
I would love perspectives from HS teachers and PostSecondary teachers that are involved in dual enrollment programs. I have an longstanding opinion from before my time as a HS instructor and that feeling has been recently reinforced.
I would love to have other opinions to maybe help me make sure I am seeing the full picture.
I think this would be a great opportunity to listen to peoples views about the subject. Though discussion is encouraged, we are not looking for any debating on what is “best” but questions may be asked.
Ideas about the topic in my head are …
- How much welding time is too much when learning?
- Is a document from an institution more useful than skills?
- Is the actual amount of documented training time for a HS student accurate and representative of the same quantity of training.
- If “Getting Done” sooner is good for getting students to work, why not help the HS programs and increase hours to make students “work ready”.
- Are Postsecondary programs “cut short” for students with DE hours? Is that good or bad.
- Is there pressure from other sources to participate because of $$$
If you have experience or thought on this topic, I would love for you to come participate. In my mind, this is a very serious topic and my thoughts on it need some tempering with other opinions.
