If you are using openbook and an LMS for your students, the lack of interface with your LMS is a pain. Miller has made a great free product and they are to be commended. Miller addresses how to place a course link in your LMS but I want to let you know how to place the actual module link in an assignment for a student.
Openbook still does not “talk” to the LMS however this can help managing assignments and make it a little easier for your students. Here is a way to try it out.
- Create a student account in openbook that you can use and join that account to the specific course you want to create module links for.
- Login using the created account and navigate to the module you would like to place in your LMS..
- Copy the address. It should have a format similar to mine below but with different ID numbers etc. https://openbook.millerwelds.com/Courses/ViewCourseSectionModule?courseItemId=28344§ionId=7395&courseSlug=GTC-Intro-to-Welding-Theory§ionSlug=Fall-2020&moduleSlug=Introduction-to-Welding—Arc-Welding-Markets
- Create an assignment in your LMS and paste the link from you openbook module. Make sure you inform the students that they will need to login if they are not when they click the link.
- To confirm they complete it, you will have to check the Openbook gradebook however you can make some type of submittal part of the assignment so you know when to check it. Here is an example of one of my assignments in Canvas.
Hopefully this helps you out some. Feel free to contact me if you need any help.
